First Things First: Cut the Clutter
“Editing is critical, it’s critical to the success of any project,” suggests Clea, referring to the act of decluttering a space. Like any other project, preparation is half the job. By editing the contents of the room beforehand, you’ll not only create a more workable space, but have an area where you can appreciate its full potential. “Spend the time doing the organizing and containment and you’ll have that dream home too.”
Conquer Closets
“The personality of a home comes down to the area that feels most representative of you. To me, that’s the closet.” Clea Admits. It makes sense, that the designs we put on our body and wear out into the world are a representation of us. For that reason the closet deserves some love. Install an organization system, upgrade the lighting around it, or maybe even add a fun wallpaper behind those clothes. We often think of home design as a showcase for other, but sometimes it’s nice to have a little secret, just for you to enjoy.

Swap Out Old Hardware
“The places where people gather the most, those have the biggest impact on a home.” Says Joanna. “I’d say that’s the kitchen.” Agreed Clea. For most homes, the kitchen is a multi-use space, forcing people to congregate and spend time there. That being said, the idea of a kitchen renovation would have most of us clutching our wallets in fear. So, how do you improve such an important space both quickly and on the cheap?
Hardware! There are few jobs easier and more impactful than changing the hardware on kitchen cabinetry. Once you’ve found the hardware that is going to suit your kitchen, it’s just a matter of unscrewing the old and replacing it with the new.

Take on Trim
When it comes to trim, the sky is the limit, or should we say, the ceiling is the limit. “If you start in a huge space, it’s overwhelming.” Joanna warns. “So, you want to start small, get your feet wet, and then take those skills to the next space.”
Trim is one of those words that covers a huge variety of styles and purposes. Trim could refer to a simple baseboard or it could be an entire room of ornate wainscoting. It could be painted to match the wall, natural tones, or even made an accent colour. The possibilities for trim seem endless, but it always adds to a space. Once you’ve decided the right style and level of trim for your own house, you can take it room by room, even wall by wall.

Add a Feature Wall
Gone are the days where the entire room needed to be one solid colour. Now we have two-tone paints, textured wallpaper, and most importantly, feature walls. A feature wall can be anything from a bold standout colour that contrasts the rest of the room, to an eye-catching slat wall. It can be whatever you choose, just make sure that it’s in a prime location to let it shine.
