R
No Cabin is an Island
The cabin is a beautiful, modern, open concept space which is perfect for hosting small gatherings or cozying up with your crew. Utilizing the natural light and white palette, this space is bright and inviting — who knew shipping containers could be so inviting?
Northern Lights at the End of the Tunnel
While the Shipping Container Cabin is a year-round destination, if you’re visiting from February to March, you may catch a glimpse of the majestic Aurora Borealis. If it’s too chilly out to take in the lights, you’ll be able to see them from the inside through the large, modern floor-to-ceiling windows.
360-Degree Views
With 1,100 square feet of space and designed as an open concept layout, the cabin boasts a large living, dining and kitchen area. The large modern windows provide astounding views of Lake of the Prairies and invite in the light. The palette reinforces the natural light using cool whites and warm wood tones to create a comfortable atmosphere while maintaining a modern aesthetic.
Feeling Sectional
Working off of the modern aesthetic, the Shipping Container Cabin is outfitted with chic and modern furniture. Our favourite piece is this deliciously comfortable sectional sofa from Canadian furniture brand EQ3. The contemporary, navy, velvet sectional entices guests to sink into the deep-set couch, to relax and watch a movie, or chillout in front of the fire.
Warm Fuzzies
There must have been a big shipment of hygge in this container because this space captures the essence of relaxing and unplugging from the daily grind. The floor-to-ceiling windows connect you to nature while warming up in front of the vintage fireplace with a glass of wine or tea. With heated hardwood floors, you won’t get cold feet about booking this stay again!
Queen of the Container
The Shipping Container Cabin offers three bedrooms: one queen bedroom and two bedrooms with double bunk beds in each room. There is plenty of room to sleep comfortably, whether it’s a sleepover with friends or a family getaway, you’re sure to catch some restorative zzz’s.
Palette Cleanser
The cabin offers two full bathrooms so there’s no line to contend with! We’re loving the warm neutrals at play with the contrasting black hardware. The continuity of the modern aesthetic throughout the cabin can be found in the most subtle details.
Like Ships in the Night
Making the most out of the space is a double bunk bed to comfortably sleep up to four guests. Pile in for a good old fashioned slumber party or share the room with your first mate. Whatever your sleep preference is, you’re sure to find it in this light and airy bedroom.
Serenity Now
Did we mention the floor-to-ceiling windows? Fresh, airy and bright may not be top-of-mind when you envision life in a shipping container, but the team behind this cabin managed to pull it off by installing big modern windows overlooking Lake of the Prairies. You may not be in a ship, but you’ll feel as if you’re right on top of the water — if not the world.
Skating on Thick Ice
The Shipping Container Cabin is situated on a hill that gently slopes down to the lake and although winter in Dropmore, Manitoba can be chilly, the lake comes alive with activities. Nothing compares to skating on a freshly frozen lake or palling around while ice fishing. Lake of the Prairies is home to some of the best year-round fishing in the region and only 15 minutes from Asessippi ski hill.
Sunrise, Sunset, Sunrise, Sunset…
Shipping containers swing both ways. Utilized horizontally, they create a spacious floorplan, but stacked tall on their end, they create the ultimate lookout, for enjoying sunrise and sunset.
