Cottages are made to make memories. For siblings, Jeff, Steph, and Katie their family cottage was an endless source of just that. Originally their grandparents’, then their mother’s, this lake house was a place where family could gather and grow together. However, as their families grew in number the cottage began to feel its age. That’s when the siblings called in Scott McGillivray. Together with his team and Debra Salmoni they got to work, turning this rusty cottage into a family-friendly cottage retreat.

Feeling its Age

The cottage had been in the family for generations. Because of this it was full; full of memories, full of family members, and full of problems. Over the years, moisture had compromised much of the house. It was because of this that Scott had to take much of the property down to the studs, but this was a property that was more than timber and brick, so any amount of work was worth it.

Gathering Round

For the siblings, it was not only important that they have room for all their children, but that that they have a comfortable space to bond. To give them just that, Debra wanted to create a fun relaxing space that took full advantage of the water views. By creating spaces with beautiful, relaxed atmospheres, that can be either opened or closed to the rest of the home, she gave them a space to do just that for years to come.

Running Wild with Design

When you’ve got twelve people in a home, no matter how big, things are bound to get a little cramped. That is, unless you utilize the space outside as well. By revitalizing the deck and exterior of the cottage, Scott gave them room to spill out to. Coupled with the overhauled bunkie for the kids to escape to, they’ll always have room, no matter how big this happy family grows.
