Untouched for 45 years, Adam and Melissa’s future home was stuck in the past. Between rotary phones, mounted fish, and a forest’s worth of pine panelling it felt more museum than home. Hoping to bring it into the 21st century they called Scott McGillivray. With his team and designer Debra Salmoni they started to both futurize and monetize this modern bayside bungalow on Lake Simcoe.

Stuck in the Past

Walking into Adam and Melissa’s lakeside property was like stepping back in time. Hoping to use it as a rental property until one day moving there from the city, this did not suit the young tech savvy couple. With a dated design that could only be described as pine on pine… on pine, it felt more like a rustic cabin than a modern retreat.

Design in High Res

Though this bungalow on the bay had beautiful views, the looks of the home itself were lacking. To fix this Debra got to work on design, both inside and out, that would suit both guests and owners. A new calming colour scheme, updated exterior siding, and a grand flagstone pathway were just some of the elements that brought the home not just into the present, but the future.

Vacationing in the Future

Since they worked in the tech sector, it was important to Adam and Melissa that the home reflected and showcased that part of their life. During the design overhaul the Vacation House Rules team worked to add modern smart technologies throughout. Smart security, a robot lawnmower, and voice activation elevated the property beyond just a smart home to the brilliant bayside bungalow.
