The Best Green Kitchen Designs For Your Next Reno

Paging Daisy Buchanan! This beguiling bar is giving us Gatsby vibes. Designed by Natasha Penzo-McIntosh of Urban Blueprint, the curved cabinet and brass hardware has a 1940s aesthetic. The ridged detailing on the cabinet is carried to the glass for cohesion. That rich gorgeous green is Chimichurri by Benjamin Moore. Can you imagine how flat this bar would have looked in white?

If you’re hesitant about colour, but want to incorporate green, choose something soft and on the safer side like this pistachio hue brought to life by Damon Fox of Toronto’s Devix Kitchens. Be sure the green doesn’t lean too blue, or it’ll read coastal.

This deep, historic grassy green is warm and rustic. The kitchen is aptly tucked inside The High Acre, a 19th century boutique inn in Dundas, Ont. Crisp white countertops and an apron sink are lovely foils to the darker hue. Gold detailing offers a hit of uplifting glitz.

The rich colour of this stunner space in Ottawa was inspired by the woodland views, says interior designer Alanna Drawson. The natural scene is reinforced with Sico’s Evergreen Forest. Raised panel-door cabinets and an old-timey apron sink give the space nostalgic appeal. The gorgeous black pulls are by Shayne Fox Hardware.

Green plays beautifully against a host of colours. In this sophisticated kitchen by Huntsville, Ont.-based Elizabeth Paige Interiors, the perimeter cabinets are dark green and the island is wood, eschewing that blah matchy-matchy feel. Meanwhile, the oven nook, coolly lined in shiny tile, adds another dynamic pop to the scene.

If you don’t want a kitchen that screams green, go for a whisper. Here, Benjamin Moore’s Duxbury Gray, with its trace of soft green, is unexpected in this contemporary kitchen designed by Marcus Iafrate of Conik Studio. The grid of flat-panel cabinetry neatly meets the ceiling — it gives the space a finished feel, and avoids that ugly dust-collecting above-the-kitchen situation.

From the green Behr Royal Orchard used on the walls and cabinets to the emerald tiles and impeccable styling, this energetic monochromatic masterpiece of a cooking space is testament to risk-taking — and just goes to show the power of paint. Step aside, white kitchen. You can’t compete against nature’s hue. This kitchen by Chicago-based North & Madison has us swooning. The old-world art! The matching green hood! The gleam in the oblong tile! That’s Caldwell Green by Benjamin Moore, a hunter green with blue undertones, doing it right.

Toronto-based designer Christine Rigby of Dickson Design Group used a mash-up of colours and materials to create this winning space. The blue-tinged green pops against the pristine white, while the wood brings in some warmth. Light-hued herringbone floors add subtle pattern and interest.

Painted kitchens just feel so right in the country. Feast your eyes on this not too slick but sassy-as-can-be kitchen by Montreal-based designer Luke Havekes. The highly intentional space features olived-toned Bancha by Farrow & Ball paint on the cabinets, vintage wallpaper on the ceiling, Thonet counter stools and a Persian runner.

The past blends with the present in this elegant space by senior designer Ashley Saywell of Paragon Kitchens. The cherrywood pantry with brass hardware is a throwback, contrasted by the slick, matte Fenix cabinets. Fenix is a favourite among architects.
