Qatar Airways Review: What It’s Really Like Flying the World’s ‘Best Airline’

Qatar Airways is known as the world’s best airline. Recently, I flew 14 hours from Doha, Qatar to Toronto in their QSuite (Business Class). The new flight route was introduced in January 2025, giving travellers an extra option for direct international flights from Toronto Pearson Airport.

According to Skytrax, Qatar Airways is voted the best airline in the world because of its superior customer experiences — and I got to try it out firsthand. The airline prides itself in providing guests with comfort, fine cuisine, the latest films and entertainment systems, and award-winning service. Here’s my experience and honest review of Qatar Airways.

Is Flying Business Class Worth It?

Let’s start with the question most people are asking: is flying Business Class worth the money? YES! Not only are the lie-flat seats on the Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Toronto so comfortable, but the lounge is worth it alone. There are many things to dread on a 14-hour flight, from checking in at the airport all the way to landing and picking up my bags. But it felt like a breeze when I flew with Qatar Airways, and one I wouldn’t mind living again.

The lie flat seats, big screen TV and unlimited food and drink do help, but I was set up for success from the moment I checked in. The lounge in Doha is massive, luxurious and entirely free for QSuite passengers. I had a full breakfast, with a cheese and fruit platter, freshly made hashbrowns, unlimited lattes and dessert. The lounge had a game room, a spa where you can get a massage or manicures, showers, and even a gym! I lived like a true queen.

But let’s talk about this in further detail.

What Is Special About Qatar Airways?

Unlike any other airline I’ve flown with, this airline had some of the kindest and sweetest staff — from start to finish! Their customer service is unlike any of the other airlines, from check-in to arrival.

The flight I took was via a Boeing 777-300ER, a plane many companies like Air Canada and Singapore Airlines also use for long-haul flights. But what distinguishes Qatar Airways from its competitors? Well, just about everything, from service and food to overall experience.

Something most frequent travellers complain about is the booking process on an airline’s website. For me, the booking system on Qatar Airways’ site was a 10/10 experience. I booked my flight quickly and without hesitation. I thought the user interface was excellent because I could instantly find all the information I needed. They even have an AI personal assistant, Sama, who can help book your flight. Qatar Airways also has many deals that make business-class travel more affordable compared to its competitors, which also sets them apart.

Is Qatar Airways a Luxury Airline?

The airline is considered luxurious due to its various offerings; and its business-class experience is no exception. The plane I took from Doha to Toronto has 42 business-class suites, each with its own privacy. There were sliding doors, a lie-flat chair, storage, forward and backward-facing seats, high-speed internet (the fastest Wi-Fi in the sky), and so much more.

If you are travelling with another person or family, you can turn your two seats into a private quad, perfect for children, work or a great socializing experience while being 40,000 feet in the air.

Qatar Airways’ in-flight entertainment system, which they call Oryx One, was also quite impressive. And thanks to that, I didn’t have a single moment of boredom on my 14-hour flight. In fact, I didn’t even need to pull out my iPad and watch downloaded films. They had hundreds of movies, shows, audiobooks and more! Also, you are given a cushioned, sound-cancelling headset that was perfect for my movie night.

I chose not to sleep much so I could have a day to disconnect, enjoy watching my “must-watch” list of movies and enjoy all the perks of the flight. It was great because the chairs are lined with a mattress. I was given the comfiest duvet and branded pyjamas, which were so cute!

Also, I was greeted with a luxury skincare product kit filled with things that could help me freshen up on the flight. It included lip gloss, hand moisturizer, face cream, perfume, socks and a face mask.

What Is the Food Like on Qatar Airways?

The way food service is handled in Business Class (QSuite) is simple: you can actually eat whenever you want. When you board the flight, you are handed a menu with pages filled with food and drink options to choose from (yes, I said pages). The flight crew then asks when you would like to eat each meal, which is then served to you accordingly.

I indulged in an afternoon tea, including finger sandwiches, warm scones, clotted cream and pastries. Then, for lunch, I ate Lobster mac and cheese, za’atar focaccia (a classic Arabic mezze plate) and a warm praline cookie with hazelnut ice cream. Can you believe this is what I ate all on a flight?!

For midflight snacks, I had cookies, popcorn and chips. I also had lots of Karak Chai along with juice, coffee and water to stay hydrated.

What was quite noticeable was the lack of noise during meal services. In fact, there were no trolleys. The flight attendants would bring each meal over to you as though they were being made fresh in the kitchen. It was truly impressive.

Final Score

Overall, I give Qatar Airways Business Class (QSuite) an 8.8/10. The reasoning being that while everything was truly amazing and it was a privilege to have this experience, I do wish the mattress on the chair was a bit thicker to help with comfort. It would be even better to have more snacks available throughout the flight. That being said, if you ever get the chance to check out Qatar Airways’ Business Class, please do.
