In Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Leonardo DiCaprio plays washed-up TV star Rick Dalton, who shares his philosophy of the value of home ownership in Tinseltown: “Most important thing in this town is, when you’re making money, you buy a house in town, you don’t rent… You’re not just visiting, not just passing through, you [bleep]ing live here.” It’s a view shared by DiCaprio himself, who sold his longtime LA home in 2018. Less than a year later, the new owner has flipped the three-storey Spanish-style hacienda, pocketing a hefty profit along the way.
